Farmland
In 2000, the United States had 2.16 million farms in business. A total of 943 million acres were being farmed. Net farm income totaled $48 billion. In 1997, the Agricultural Census found that of the acreage being farmed, about 46 percent was cropland, about 43 percent was range and pasture, and the remainder was woodland and fallow fields.1
With regard to crop production in the U.S., weather patterns have had varying impacts on different fruit, nut and grain crops. For example, almond production was up from 2001 to 2002, while pecan production fell in the same period. More information is available at:
